Welcome to Infophilia. This is one of the places where I’m pioneering a positive psychology of information, an avant-garde research project. If this is your first time, I am glad to have you here. Start with Infophilia and the Dopamine Connection (Sept. 15, 2023) or check out this short video for topics I’ve covered, more about me, and how to cite these essays. Welcome back, everybody else! As always, thanks for reading.
What links Siblings, #EveryBookItsReader and Bibliodiversity? Well, it's not your usual trio, but here’s the scoop: An exciting confluence of events in April converge and celebrate the special bonds between brothers and sisters, the community hubs that connect us with the written word, even as they reveal scholarly communication and publishing across borders - all with an underlying theme of prosociality.
April 10 marks National Siblings Day, while April 7-13 is all about celebrating National Library Week. And to add to the mix, there’s #EveryBookItsReader, a global month long campaign from April 1 - 30, spearheaded by the Wikimedia + Culture project. In honor of my first readers from South America, our neighboring continent, I include bibliodiversity - which has been spotlighted by the United Nations in the past on April 23, World Book and Copyright Day or International Book Day. The seemingly disparate topics, informed by my personal and research connections, have been transformed into insights, centered around the prosocial behaviors uniting them, to guide our well-being and varied intellectual projects and agendas. Prosociality is a critical element of infophilia as a positive psychology of information.
